Ought to be a great match up of programs. I see McCoy is much improved over last year and improving every week. He even has Bradford's efficiency rating beat. Have a good one and ride safe. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, the ole Red River Shoot-out...ought to be a good game. Always is.

Good luck on your venture inside the motor. One thing to be real observant on is the timing marks on the cam and the oil pump. I've had my '96 Evo apart numerous times and it's really a no brainer. Make sure you've got the book handy.

Buy two identical nose cone gaskets and use one of them for setting your end free play of the cam and use the fresh one for final assembly.
Check the breather gear for ANY imperfections around the outside diameter. If there are any grooves, they will work as carriers for trash that will eat up the case. Steel breather gears will not carry this trash. (Mine had a little extra whine after the steel gear)
Check the lifter blocks for any side wear around the lifter roller guide at the bottom of the slots.
Be sure when installing the needle bearing that it is behind the winged washer boss to allow oil flow.

JohndeerB,

This is an excerpt from a RKJohn post last month:
"Tap new one in using cam to 005-010 below flush with case, or just a bit down. You will hear it bottom out but be carefull here. Go easy".

I didn't see a spec mentioned in my Service Manual so this is the only mention I've seen anywhere of how deep to set the bearing.

By the way, there were five pages of instructions at the following site: http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/hdcaminstall00.htm

Don't know why they broke it into five pages but its not too cumbersome to page through. They had some things I hadn't pulled out after watching the DVD and they removed more than I planned on removing for the job. I have been busy reading about the gears and push rods and what tools I was going to need and hadn't even looked at exhaust pipe clearance, etc.

Hope it is useful,
John
