Evo oil pump question

Can I use a oil pump from a 98 Evo in the earlier Evo (85-91) cases? What are the differences? Any way to modify this pump to use it on the earlier cases? I am planning on using the later heads on this build, hell for that matter can the later heads even work with the earlier cases, I know the breather system is different. Anyone out there use later heads on the earlier cases and change over to the newer breather system?
Thanks

First - I am a newbie. I am building a heritage right now from parts.

I bought a motor and was told it was a shovel, 113CI.

What I have found is that it is a early style Evo (breathers are different and some other things). S&S pistons, S&S jugs, and newer style stock harley heads. It all fits together nicely.

I'm not experienced enough with the older Evos to say for sure. However, what I can say is that if you install for example and S&S pump on an Evo, depending on the year of the Evo there may be modifications required to the case in order for the pump to function properly. My suggestion just to get background on what I'm talking about is to go to the S&S site and take a look at the downloadable install guide for the S&S Billet pump. You'll see all the different configurations. Simple answer is that I am very confident that you cannot just bolt that newer pump on the older Evo without any modifications to the Evo.

I have a 1989 Ultra. I converted it to use 1999 Breather heads. I changed the transmission to the one with the oil tank under it. I moved the oil filter to the front of the motor. I wanted to have a clean look of the later oil pump. I got a 1998 oil pump and with the motor out, I tried to change the oil pump to the later one. I found the newer pump body is different. The bolt pattern is slightly off. The body will not bolt to the crank case without modification. But, I did find the pump cover (26267-92) did bolt up. The bolts ate tricky to get started, but it did fit. I used all pre-1992 parts except for the cover and associated oil line set up. It works great! I used factory parts to hook up the filter mount. I just shortened the rubber lines to clean up the look at the pump.

Yes, the pumps bolt patern was changed on around 1992.
Oddly, the pumps bolt holes can be stretched so they will fit early or later engines, I dont recomend, but it can be done.
