The cruiser bikes will take 4 qt, did you change the filter? With the oil tank completely dry and a new filter it will take 4 qts. The baffled oil tank holds a lot of oil if you don't let it drain for 10 to 15 min or so.

Just out of curiousity, did you check the oil on the kickstand or standing straight up?? Should be on the kickstand. Did you also run it before you checked it??

Just for clarafication, SJBUSHI, this is the procedure for bikes with the oil pan. On other models, like the softails with the oil tank under the seat, the bike should be straight up. Even with the softails now (changed in 05), your can check it on the kickstand (dipstick was changed).

If you haven't done it, get an HD service manual for the bike. Best investment yo'll make.

Funny this should come up. I was checking my receipts and noticed that on my last oil change they got me for 4 qts but on the one before, only 3.
