1988 Ignition Module

The ignition module on a 1988 is mounted under the oil tank. I have to remove the module and I was look for some information on how it is mounted. The service manual does not tell you anything about this subject.

I had to replace one on a 88 FXSTS but it's been over 10 years ago. I seem to remember that there were 2 small bolts holding it on. I do remember putting a flashlight and mirror under there to figure out what they were.

Do you remember if you had to pull the oil tank or can you get to it with a wrench and mirror

No, I didn't pull the oil tank. As I remember it, it was a ***** doing it because of limited space but it worked. Just be patient. Would probably be easier to just remove the rear wheel and splash guard. That would give you very easy access to it and doesn't take that long. Better that than oil tank if you're having trouble.

Are you changing to a single-fire or aftermarket unit? I've got an 87 that's stock too. Have been thinking of going to a single fire and would like someone's experiences that has.
Thanks,
