backfires through the carb

I just picked up a xl1200c and when I am first accelerating on the gas it wants to back fire though the carb. I had them put se pipes and a se jet kit on at the dealer. The bike only has 89 miles on it...can this be caused by the cold weather (in the 50) here or should I bring the bike back to the dealer and have them correct this problem?

Are you using the enrichener to warm it up?

Yes I use it when I start the bike but after about 4 or 5 min I close it...the more I ride it I think it has something to do with the cold weather here...after it warms up it only does it every now and then...I talked to the stealer and they told me to bring it in and they would look at it...a buddy of mine says it is a way they get you to buy a new breather....I don't know?

Did the dealer drill out the idle mixture screw plug? You may want to turn that screw out (counterclockwise) maybe half a turn. This will rich the mixture

How can I tell if they drilled out the hole? I had them rejet the carb and put seII add on to the bike...it just seems to back fire when idleing and I am feathering the throttle at stop lights or when I am just starting to give it some gas. Sorry about the stupidity it's my first real bike!!!!

The idle mixture screw is located behind the float bowl on the bottom rear of the carb. Not sure if you can get a mirror (dentist mirror?) back there to look up. If it is not drilled out you will see an aluminum plug. If it is drilled out you will see a hole with a brass screw down inside (slotted for a small flathead screwdriver) Lot of info on CV carbs here ,do a search.

4 or 5 minutes is an awful long time to let a bike idle with the enrichener out. You may be fouling a plug initially.
