Umbrella Valve Question

1999 Night Train with 1340 cc EVO

Does it make a difference where the umbrella valve goes in the middle section of the rocker box? There is a possible two places it can go in both rocker boxes and I don't see in the service manual where it says it really matters. The manual only shows one view and it appears to be the front cylinder which would put the umbrella valve right by the vent hole to the air cleaner. Wouldn't the rear cylinder require the umbrella valve to be near the vent hole to the air cleaner also?

P.S. What a PAIN the rear rocker box is to get on and off, I would hate to find I put the umbrella valve in the wrong location and have to go through this again.

Thanks.

Both of valves have only 1 correct location each. And that is in the center. The reason you have 2 places, is because the covers are interchangeable. If you didn't put them in the correct places, oil would easily come out the breather vents.

Jeff S. Thank you, that is where I put them on a hunch. I got in too much of a hurry and didn't pay attention when I pulled the old ones out when I was cleaning the parts up. Thought the manual whould show where they went along with the rest of the gaskets, that is what I get for thinking

Thanks again.
