rebuilt engine with rocker box noise

just installed a rebuilt 80" in my 90 softail. getting a lot of clatter out of the exhaust side of the front rocker box. builder says to bring her in, but they are 2 plus hours away and its a heavy bike to load into the truck. i searched and found that, because of the valve angle of the front exhaust it is not uncommon for the pushrod to hit the tube. the engine has new rocker boxes and one person wrote of the valve spring hitting on a casting flaw. for convenience sake i'm going to pull the valve cover and take a look ( by the way, it has adj pushrods and the lifters were not changed, but i did pull the tube and the pushrod did not seem to have any clearance indicating a collapsed lifter.). anything else i should be looking for in there? thanks for your input.......

Dd you put in a new cam as well? Some need the cases ground for clearances.

well i found the front intake had about3/8" clearance! i went ahead and pulled the box and the lifters, everything looked good. adjusted the push rod and no more noise. don't know what happend, maybe he just forgot to adjust that one. guess i'm not the only who makes mistakes. just finished putting the first 50 miles on it and changed the oil and filter, lots of silver in the oil, hope thats normal for the first oil change! what say you?

Nah...it happens! I had the same when I dropped in my latest cam. Started up and bloody noisey when I know she should be quieter. Redid the pushed adjustment and she was fixed....still a little noisy but no where near as bad the first time around.
