How far will an evo go?
I have a 91 FLSTC with 25,000 - miles. A couple of weeks ago I replaced the base gaskets and the cylinder walls looked perfect. In fact, other than the leaky base gasket everything looked good.
I have a buddy with an Electra Glide, TC88 engine. Last summer he had 108,000 miles on his bike with no major engine work. He did the Key West to Alaska ride since then, rode it back home and then did another ride back to key West. So, I'm sure he has a lot more miles on his bike today. I might add that a couple of years ago he had an oil line leak while out on the road and lost most of his oil. He was at a convenience store gassing up when he found it. He poured oil from the convenience store in the bike and kept on riding. He says he put quite a few miles on it before he was able to get proper oil and hasn't noticed that it hurt anything.
How far will an EVO go, generally speaking, before it needs major engine work or, to have the engine replaced? I don't think mine has more than stock compression although it does have a cam, S&S Super E, SE ignition and Vance and Hines pipes. Could I expect to go over 100,000 miles without a top end job or other major work done? And yes, I'm real anal about servicing. So far I have changed the oil about every 2000 miles.

A respectfully cared EVO (or TC ) should be able to get well over 100,000 miles plus.

Mine has over 104,000 and still has excellent compression. I expect it to go at least another 50,000 miles before needing major work. The oil has been changed every 2,500 miles and the bike is ridden moderately. Leaky base gaskets are a function of the bike being 22 years old. I had mine done, too.

Friend of mine has 95 RK with 300k. At 250k the engine developed bad oil leak and he decided to have it remaned by HD to new specs. That was the first major engine work since new. He services it regularly himself and uses regular HD oil.

do a search and see if you can find "the oil fix"
Evos are prone to base gaskets leaking, this base gasket kit solves this
by putting a metal peice in the case that goes thru the base gasket,
and into the cylinder..

Miles
A Co-worker has a early EVO Dyna with over 380,000. Rides it almost every day. He rebuilt the top end one time other than that just regular maintenance.

Wow! That's a lot of miles. My buddy rides his electra-glide all year. He doesn't even own a car. He says he needs a car about ten days a year and when that happens he uses his girlfriends car.

Pretty cool. Puts a smile on my face knowing bikes are getting ridden that much.

I just turned 103k on a 1991 stroked 89 inch EVO and it's still running strong and no leaks..
I might add that I am not easy on this motor, it has been pounded by the grip but maintained very well with oil, ect...

I wouldn't worry about it. At the rate you're going, you have a good 90 years before you catch up to your buddy.
