What years are interchangeable?

Hello, Im new to the forum, I just bought a 1987 FLHTC with 50K miles on it. Nothing really wrong with it as far as I can tell. But I would like to get some different mufflers (Rineharts or Wild Pigs). But trying to find something that is made for this year is difficult. I am wondering what other years (if any) are interchangeable. A friend of mine has a set of stock mufflers off his 2010 electra glide, we held the mufflers up to mine and they looked like an exact fit. So this got me wondering if most years of exhaust will fit. Also the turn signal buttons you have to hold them constantly to turn them on and brake and clutch at the same time, which is really a pain, is this normal for they year bike? Any help would be appriciated. Thanks

Well, I thought the mufflers changed in about 1996. On my '88 FLTC, they are slip-ons. After 1996, they slide inside the exhaust pipe, rather than over it like mine do. I just had this discussion with my brother-in-law today, as a matter of fact, because I want a little louder than my stock pipes too. As far as the turn signals, I've got the same shitty deal, they suck. Harley makes a flasher that stays on for a certain length of time and stops. I forget the actual part number, but there is an "A", "B", and "C" version. The "C" is the self canceling. I bought one once, it was $20, but it didn't work, I just through it out since they don't refund electrical parts. I'll probably try another one some day. I'm thinking about upgrading my light to LED's because no one can see these old things.

Any mufflers off of a Touring bike up through 1992 will fit if you have the stock head pipes. In 1995 they went to "Slip Fit Mufflers" 1994 and earlier had a "Flange Type Inlet" You should be able to look at the muffler inlet clamp and determine which type you have. The "Slip Fits" use a band type clamp on the inlet where as the "Flange Type" use a clam type clamp ( two half moon shaped clamps that use two bolts to hold them together.

Ok mine has the band (only 1 nut and bolt) so.. that means 1993 and later will fit it?

The part number for the flasher is 68543-64C. They are $19.95 from my local Harley. I found them cheaper on-line, but they charge $7 to ship! That's ridiculous, it would cost them $1.50 at most. But, by the time they charge for shipping, I might as well order it through Harley.
