New build problems

As mentioned in an earlier post, I finished my '86 FLTC.. The rains quit and I finally got to take her for a ride. Within a short time, I could hear a tapping or clicking noise, and the engine was running rough.. kind of shaking.. I turned around and came home.. Pulled the plugs and the rear one looked nice and brown.. the front one was white ! Very lean.. When it was running, it wasn't really poping out of the carb although it did it a time or two.. I checked the compression.. 130 in the front and rear. Maybe a manifold leak?? Would this cause the engine to make the tapping noise?

Lifter? Did you replace them? Use adjustable push rods?

Sorry for the late reply. I fixed the manifold leak... long story why that happened to begin with. Newer lifters and properly adjusted push rods.. wet 4 turns down how I always did it. When I put the stabilizer under the tank it lined up perfect with no stress.. I just put rear swingarm rubber (taiwan). I got the tank off and am getting a lawnmower tank to run it and see if it is something to do with that. If I dont see anything unusal, I will remove the cam cover and check the run out on the gear shaft.. I did too many things on this bike at one time..

Check that the jam nuts didn't come loose on your push rods. Happened to me when I first up the EV27 in. One of my push rods shortened up.
