S&S V111 evo engine problems

I bought a complete S&S V111 engine with Super Stock ignition, and Super E carb. I installed it in a 1999 Fatboy with D&D Fat Cat exhaust. It accelerates fine but when cruising at a steady throttle it hesitates/bucks/jerks in all gears, most noticably between 1800 and 2400 RPM. I've had it dyno tuned and the intermediate and main jets are right, the idle mixture and the accelerator pump have been adjusted. A new coil has been installed, the plugs and plug wires are new. The float and needle have been checked. VOES is new. Any ideas? I had high hopes for this engine but am pretty disappointed.

It sounds like a carb/intake problem. It could be a timing issue. More info is needed.

What more info do you need? I can't do anything about timing because S&S seals the ignition and if you break the seal, the warranty is voided.

First thing I'd do is fatten it up. You can start by making the idle a little on the rich side. Might not cure it, but should improve just a little. Don't worry about the idle. If it does help a little, go up on the intermediate jet. The juice that passes for gas these days tends to make em run skinny.

That motor needs a super g. Or my personal favorite, a 45 mikuni. Super e is too small.

My engine will buck in all the gears at about the same rpm range as stated above...I think my problem is keeping it on top of the .600 cam at those rpms.

what engine do you have in the bike?
maybe a another cam that is litte
smaller in yours but what i now
im no engine tuner.

Its an an Evo. Its a one off build,...delkron cases, axtell c.i. jugs, edelbrock heads...

It had dual carbs on it but I never could get both cyclinders where they needed to be fuel/air wise at the same time. So I am in the process of putting a single carb on it.

It runs great, just have to stay on top of the cam lobes to keep it happy....
It doesn't like to be in town traffic at all and it wants to pass everything but a gas station!! Last I checked the fuel milage it was just under 20 mpg....

I agree with you tho, a little lower cam may be in the works before to long.

a friend of mine had dual mickuni carbs a few years back on a s&s124evo
dident runns fine att all he put back the s&s single carb again dont now
if it is a super g or d on those after that the bike runns strong as a
train. the mpg is vent down to. what i remember.
maybe your bike being better in town whith the single
carb you are in process to putting on. just thinking loud
im no tuner you now.

I'd like to know what the original poster found with his S&S V111. I am in the process of dropping one in my '84 FXST.

As this engine is advertised as having a shorter profile than the stock Harley 80" are the exhaust ports any lower? The '84 has a kick starter and thus can't stand much pipe movement to still fit the pipes around the kicker.
