EVO - 1999 Weak Points

I posted this in two EVO spots on the forum -- hope that's okay.

Okay, I'm a twin-cam guy, but have found a 1999 Heritage Springer that brings tears to my eyes. Low-low miles (under 5,000), perfect condition & bone-stock. I was looking for a 2002, but now am very close to buying the 1999. I'll likely do the breather kit, slip-ons, thunderslide and a mild bolt-in cam (EV23 or EV27). And I know I should replace the INA bearing with a Torrington. My goal is to get the motor runinng like it should, and most impiortantly, that it be dead-solid reliable. All-out performance is not the goal. So, my question is: What is the quick list of must-do's to shore up any longevity/reliability issues on the 1999 EVO motor? Thanks in advance.

1 Torrington cam bearing.

The rest is optional IMO.

Definately the cam bearing, and keep the oil changed and they're bulletproof.I run a '99 evo in my '90 fxstc, with an EV 27,Hypercharger,Python 2-1,rejetted to 48 and 190,and she works great with 52k on the bike and 21k on the motor.Ride fairly aggressively and never had any trouble.Great motor.

Even if you don't do the cam,do the Torrington cam bearing.

Don't hesitate, I have a 2 evo's a 99 and a 97. They run great, and you can build them or leave them. They are easy to work on. I did cams, ignitions, pushrods, and a lot more, not because I needed too, because I wanted too,.Did it myself,no problems.

Biggest problem on an Evo is finding twinkies that can keep up with you.

bullet proof

Have a friend with a bone stock 96 FLH 120,000 miles not a leak or problem. Gas,oil, plugs, tires that's it. In fact anyone that I ride with that have an Evo are way over the 100 thousand mark. Most have only done routine maintenance. The last years of the Evo were outstanding engines can't say that about anything older than the 94 and down. It was a crap shoot if you got an engine that was built with good castings and machining.
