Compression Release install

I just went through another starter so I am sending the heads out to have the releases installed, I posted earlier this year about a chewed starter I had bore over .005 and high compression pistons installed, right after it chewed up my stock starter and ring and pinion gear, I installed a high torque starter with a 66 tooth ring gear and 9 tooth pinion, the high torque starter failed on me, once i get the heads back with the compression releases should I go back to the 102 an 10 tooth ring and pinion with a stock torque starter or can I stay with the set up I have now even though there is compression releases installed, the starters under warranty other wise I will have to buy a new stock starter and stock ring and pinion any opinions or advice on this sorry for being so long winded.

I would use what you have.
you can also switch wires on your run button to let the motor turn over on the off position and after it is spinning switch it to run and fire it off without having any kickback. I am assuming this is a evo from your screen name, so carb and no efi? you could also use a ign. with kick mode to let it turn two revolutions and do the same thing. the run switch is simple and dosent cost anything. I used to do this on my older shovel's and evo's

Yeah its an Evo 1340 so you dont think the engine will over spin with the CR's installed with the the high torque starter set up I guess thats what I am asking opinions on here.

you know, the bigger the motor, the harder to start especially if your starting it in gear... save the life of your battery and starter by putting it in neutral AND pulling in the clutch when u start. less components your starter has to turn to run

no it will not over spin. keep the high tq. starter
compression releases are gonna help that motor a lot.
If it still has a tendency to kick back try the mod to the run switch. It's a pain in the arse replacing those ring gears and starters all the time. been there done that.
Timing plays into this also. but if you retard it to help starting then it loses some power on the big end.
