Digital Speedometer Installation

I have a custom chopper with a 110 RevTech Evo style engine. It has a speedo/tach digital gauge. I haven't figured out the speedo part, so decided to install a rocker box speedo/oil pressure gauge. My problem is that the install for the speedometer references one lead wire should go to the signal from the sender and I don't know where to find this connection. I bought the bike for a good price, and didn't get the wiring diagram. I don't want to mess with the speedo/tach unit, since the tach works fine. Does the sender connection come off of the coil or somewhere else?

Any information to point me in the right direction is appreciated!

Depends on your transmission...
Some have an electric speedometer sensor on them,
Some have a cable drive, and
Some have nothing at all, the speedo on these bikes ran off a cable to the front wheel...

Sounds like the sensor or cable drive may be what you're looking for.

Since you've got an electronic speedo, you're going to need a sensor to "drive" it.

But, if its set up for a cable drive speedo off the transmission, you're going to have to get an adapter for the electronic speedo.

I think that Dakota Digital makes a set up for that. Might check some of the other parts vendors, Custom Chrome, Biker's Choice, etc...

Dakota Digital makes an adapter (sensor, really) for speedo drive cables to digital speedos. I have one, but I don't use it. You can drive a Dakot Digital speedo off of just about any wheel linked pulse. If your transmission didn't have a cable drive, you could probably rig something up with a ABS sensor and some magnets on the wheel, or maybe the ABS sensor near spokes if you have spokes. It would take some experimenting.
