need coil info

Trying to narrow down the type of stock coil on my 89 FLHTP , anyone have any idea if its a Dual Fire Single Plug ,Dual Fire Dual Plug Single Fire Single Plug or Single Fire DualPlug? I'm thinking Single Fire DualPlug although pics I've seen look nothing like it. I'm going to be ordering an HQ ignition and need to know if the stock coil will work with it.
I know its stock just not sure which one .

I have a 91' evo with a 99' motor and I went with Ultima electronic ign. A.K.A. Dyna and used my stock coil. I'm sure someone here would know. My guess is, it is the same as mine. I set mine up as dual fire single plug. Ultima gives different options. Dual, single fire, and where to set your curve depending on engine combination. Piston, bore, stroke, cam selection etc. The updated electronic pick-up is soo easy to install, and it made static timing a snap with the L.E.D. light.

All the factory evo's I've seen have come with dual fire and single plug. Your coil should only have 2 wire connectors on it. If it has 3 connectors, it would be single fire.

Looks like I'm going to need a new coil, I need a single fire for the ignition I'm getting.

Most single fire ignitions I have seen have a switch to set it to dual fire if you want to run it in dual fire mode.

I took a look at hq's web site. Those hq ignitions look like they are made by daytona twin-tech, except for hq-21835, which looks like the compu-fire ignition. Daytona twin-tec makes ignitions for another company I know. They are good ignitions.

I am assuming you are going with the hq-6000, which fits in the cam cover. It does have a mode switch that you should be able to set to dual fire. Daytona twin-tech does have the same ignition that fits in the same location as the factory module. I prefer this location since it subject to less heat and vibration. It also give you the flexibility of using your old factory module as a spare since they just plug into the factory wire harness. Even if you convert to single fire, you could still put in the factory module and then put a jumper accross the coil to convert it to dual fire.

Just something to think about. The ignigitons that fit in the cam cover are reliable, so don't loose any sleep if you have already ordered it.

Thanks for input, yes I willget the 6000 ignition, I'm thinking the single fire would be better output since the spark is not being wasted on the second wire and the single spark is max at the single spark plug.

Here's the link to the twin-tech modules if you are interested or want to look through the install manuals. Install manual should be the same for the HQ one you are looking at.
