rear cylinder miss

The basics:
95 Ultra, EV 27 cam, Rivera taperlite Pushrods, new carb (HD) SE module, SE slip ons, V&H dual head pipes. new coil. fresh intake seals and carb to manifold seal.

When idling, the front cylinder sits there and beats very rythmically, like...putt, putt putt putt putt putt putt

rear cylinder goes putt whoof putt shoof whoof put. It's like it's not firing correctly on every stroke.

i pulled the plugs and the rear seems a bit lean. It almost has a spark knock when you put it into a pull. Above 2500 rpms, you don't notice it or it's happening so frequently, you don't notice.

Any ideas??

Bubba

Yep, new cam was put in. I'm wondering if one of my adjustible pushrods has moved and is no longer allowing the valves to open fully. On hard acceleration under 2k rpm, there is a clunking noise

Thanks

Check the following:

Air leaks at the manifold/carb and manifold/heads. While the engine is idling spray WD40 on those joints. If you notice a change in how it idles you have a culprit.

Check the plugs for cracked insulation. Of course just changing the plugs will tell you this story.

Look for bad plug wires. If you have access to some old good ones just try switching them out.

Check for leaking exhaust gasket in the rear cylinder. This will cause lean running and popping at idle.

Check the timing. Your SE module has a different advance curve from the stocker.

Are you sure that "clunking" isn't pinging? Again, check the timing. If you increased your CR (which you didn't mention) you'll have to retard your timing a bit.

Check the VOES and it's associated vacuum hoses. The Harley manual gives the right procedure for this.

if your hearing little noise coming from the rear head it is your pushrod- out of adjustment

I would check timing and then pushrod adjustment.

I do have some noise on the rear cylinder. I'm going to go through the pushrod adjustment procedure just as Rivera calls for it to be done. Will post with what I find. Hopefully it will be the adjustment. Sure would save me some money for a top end rebuild.

Thanks guys

Bubba
