Bubbles in oil

Hey All,
I have a 1988 FLTC with 89,000 miles on it....(yeah, I know). I just did a top end gasket kit and installed adjustable push rods. The operation went well, but I have little bubbles in my oil tank, and a binding noise. Maybe the oil pump is shot???

A binding noise....what does that sound like?

Some symptoms of a bad oil pump include low/no oil pressure,( you will hear the lifters clatter), no scavenging (you will not have oil returning to the tank, and it will eventually blow out the breather).

Well, it sounds like a bad bearing. I've been trying to locate the origin, but haven't had much luck. The cheap fat adjustable pushrods I put in it the tubes, but that's not it. The other day I noticed my oil pressure gauge was jumping, something I've never seen before. Tomorrow I'm going to look into the oil pump and see if the noise is coming from there. Is there a specifc part in the oil pump that goes first?

Check your push rods.Alot of your oil pressure comes from your lifters. You should be able to spin them freely with your fingers when the pistons on top dead center.

Your descriptions of the problem are too vague to even offer a suggestion.

I've come to the conclusion that most of the racket is coming from those pushrods. They are banging and rubbing on the tubes. I have new lifters to put in, but I don't have a socket for the 12 point bolts on the blocks. I believe they are 1/4", but my 6 point sockets just fly over them. When I finally get it apart, I'll replace them with allen heads.

It is very common for after market adustable pushrods to hit the tubes. The tubes must be relieved to stop the noise. I can't remember the exact procdure, but you will find it if you do a search on adjustable pushrods.

I had to cut my tubes down to keep them from rubbing on the rods.It is the inner tube that slides into the main tube.I just used a tubing cutter which worked slick. You just have to be carefull not to cut to much off.
