94 flhtc stock exhaust
Has anyone cut the end of the pipes before the mufflers to use replacement slip on mufflers and did it make the pipes to short?
thanks
Kim

Yes, I have done that. I have a 94 ultra and it had the flanged header pipes with straight pipes out the back when I bought it in 07. I couldn't stand the noise and it was the first thing I replaced. Just used a sawzall with a fine toothed metal blade and cut the flange off while the headers were still on the bike. Very easy and smooth, just go slow and don't touch anything else with the blade. I can't hardly think 1 1/2" will make the pipes too short. I then added the stock slip-ons with the last baffle knocked out and I have more power than when I first got the bike (after I tuned the cv carb). Alan

I cut the ones on my '90, the Harley touring mufflers fit beautifully, but the Samson Touring ovals were very close, I could put them on but had to use sealant to keep them from leaking. The Harley mufflers were definitely made better. I bumped into a set of headers with shields from an '08 at a very good price and that is even better than cutting off the old stock headers.

Ebay has lots of later model exhaust systems that will fit your bike. Just purchased a 2007 set with heat sheilds for 24.99 plus shipping. Mine were welded up at the rear pipe connector.
Just a thought.

Retsailor, I believe your evo can use the header all the way up to 2008. Same set up but the hanger under the tranmission may have to be changed. The pipes are all the same for evo and twin cam. Later models have 02 sensors but they can easily be plugged.

Retsailor. I installed the 2007 exhaust system on my 1998 RK last night and everything worked out perfectly. Bolted up with no problem. I know for sure that evo and twin cam exhaust is the same. The later models are built a bit stronger where the rear pipe connects to the main section. I have had 2 harleys that broke right there in the same place but these look stout. Thank God for Ebay.

Yeah, John, my crossover pipe broke there too, under the cover. I didn't notice it and the exhaust valve guide dropped out of the head near Mitchell, S.D., leading to this behind the motel in Pierre, S.D.:

What years will fit?
Hello, Im new to the forum, I just bought a 1987 FLHTC with 50K miles on it. Nothing really wrong with it as far as I can tell. But I would like to get some different mufflers (Rineharts or Wild Pigs). But trying to find something that is made for this year is difficult. I am wondering what other years (if any) are interchangeable. A friend of mine has a set of stock mufflers off his 2010 electra glide, we held the mufflers up to mine and they looked like an exact fit. So this got me wondering if most years of exhaust will fit. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks
