Exclamation EVO Style Head Bolts

I have a 100" ULTIMA motor....( forget factory assistance...non existent... they only deal with their retailers and will not or can not give you a list of dealers in your area) .Broke a BEEHIVE style valve spring at just under 15,000 miles. Replaced them all with standard type springs ( designed for the high lift ) with inners and outers.
Reassembled motor and it ran great for 3 miles...BROKE all four long head bolts. I know I shouldn't have ...but I did re-use the old ones. Torque according to Ultima.....( FINAL TORQUE OF 42 FT lbs in 5 steps checking each step twice) Lubricated the treads with anti-seize
The long ones are the same as the stock ones on a 89 EVO, but the short ones are 1/4" longer than the stock ones.. Is there a stock bolt for any one of the family of H.D. motors that is the same as these short ones.
THEY ARE: 3/8 SAE thread( coarse ) ...1/2 " diameter and a length of 1.9"
I do not want to reassemble this with the original short bolts....even though they seem to be OK.
Any help/advise and /or moral support would be appreciated.
Carlos
I'd rather ride than wrench

Thanks for the info......With that info, I made it to the H.D. dealer here in Reno and got every thing I needed.
Is it possible that TOO MUCH ANTI SEIZE trapped in the cavity left above the stud, heated to whatever the temp was when they broke, could have caused the weakening / fracture of the bolts.
All four broke within 30 seconds of each other. First the rear then the front. I realize that re-using the old ones was a bad decision on my part, but is it possible in your opinion that the anti seize could have contributed. I probably did use too much. This time it will be anti seize under the head of the bolt and a light oil film on CLEAN threads.
Thanks for your assist.

It's possible.... But I thought that you were only supposed to very lightly oil the bolts rather than use antisieze.

My ULTIMA manual specifies either. Thanks

And I say thanks to those that took the time to respond....

There is a very interesting article on the LocTite website about clamping force and the use of thread lubrication on final torque settings.
