Head Porting a 80 inch????

Ok, so im building a 80 inch evo for my bagger, the only set in stone thing i have so far is a set of stock bore 10 to 1 je pistons and screaming eagle 1.7 primary chain kit ill be installing. Lets say i throw in a woods w6 with this set up with stock heads, what hp/tq numbers would i see, then what if i have mild port/polish done, What are the gains gonna be?? ive read several places where they say stock valve size and port size is sufficient, then ive read elsewhere where they say chamber and port is horrible and should be modified. whats your guys input?? and has anyone done back to back test to verify gains over stock vs ported heads??? thanks chad.

Site sponsor, Rosa's Cycle, recently tuned and 80" Evo, with a Wood 6, and a good* set of heads, equipped with V&H Big Radius pipes, and the dyno results showed 85 hp and 93 ft/lbs!!!!!!!!!

Think it would have done a little better with a thunder header?

+1....any decent 2:1, for that matter.

Still does not address the original question of a Woods 6 cam, 10.1 compression and untouched oem heads. Has anyone dyno'd this combination?

I hear ya Ed! Looks like my "head" money may be spent on new bushings & motor mounts! That's why I got in. For some reason I seem to want my bike to stop & turn now. In the old days it was just go fast! Must be getting old!LOL

I went from cam, carb, intake, ingition--first step. Second step, boosted compression and "street port"...my builder said it was not really a port/polish...but "a 5 angle valve job is yesterday--I just added to the valve job a little cleaning things up, which is all your build on an Evo needs". ADDED: dyno at 71/75 prior to compression/heads
the headwork cost me $275...when added to the compression bump, it's a very responsive and satisfying ride! AND with old style SE (cycle shack) slip ons.
My target was torque, broad power band, reliable...a "riding bike" for Idaho backroads.
advice? spend a little more for 1 step over stock heads...don't do a full-tilt port and
polish.....and ride, ride...

I do believe it can be done....but not in a consistent way. My builder thinks God made the Evo heads...which leads to his "cleaning up" my heads and not going with a more focused port/polish.
Night Rider list also shows the necessity of matching the components...notice the stock heads are listed with 80 inchers when the compression is stock--up to the low 9's. Above 9.5 and almost everything reflects something done with the heads.
In my humble opinion, the "formula" of matched parts has a huge impact on the final product.
....stopping and turning also sounds like a very good goal in my view! (52 y.o.)
