dumb question

I have a 1998 fxdwg. just replaced the rocker box gaskets.
All went well except the gas tank drain. I made a huge mess. Tried to open the petcock and let it drain but nothing. tried suction on the petcock, nothing. How can I get gas out of the tank without siphoning and pulling crossover tube and making a huge mess?

Easiest way is to clamp one side of the crossover tube, cut it, and put a larger tube over the other end and drain fuel into a gas can.
The stealer sells the stock clamps to redo....make sure to clamp the right side before installing tank, then do the left.
I prefer these over standard hose clamps.

Thanks doc, that is a great idea! clamp would work better than my finger on one side as I try to get a larger hose over the other!

I would think you would need 2 clamps and then cut in the middle of them. Otherwise the gas will come out of the unclamped side before you can get a larger tube over it.

Your bike has a vacumn opererated petcock. Use a vacumn pump and hook it up to the fitting on the back of the petcock and the gas will flow freely out of the tank. dsv

Use the clamp on one side as suggested. Cut a 3-4in length of line the same as the crossover and plug one side with a large bolt or something. When you pull the crossover line off a little fuel will leak out but you can plug the unplugged side with your finger til you can slip the newly made plug on. It works better and better the more experience you have with it
