Oil line routing

I'm changing the oil lines to stainless on my 99' Heritage. The instructions that came with the lines are in conflict with figure 3-1 on page 3-8 of the service manual. Which oil tank port is the main oil feed to the oil pump? Aren't the return and vent ports on the oil tank right next to each other?
