Home Made Catch Can for my Evo

After all the internal upgrades and new Mik 42, I did not want to route all that blow by back into the motor. I researched everything I could ... Searched for all the products I could ... nothing I could find was what I was looking for. I found everything from "run a tube to the ground" to "here is a plastic catch can you can buy". I decided to make my own. While still learning to use my new-to-me antique lathe, I had this idea. A few pieces of Stainless hex stock, some AN fittings, a length of braided hose, a small air filter (that I had to dye black), and many, many hours of standing at my lathe and polishing wheel; this is what I came up with. Have a look and let me know what you think. If you think it is way too much over-kill, then I have succeeded.

You can see more detailed pics here.

Nice! If you can't find what you like-just make it! This is where the best ideas come from.
Couple questions-
1. Are you getting any misting out of the filter?
2. How often do you check the catch can to see if there is anything in there?
3. Is there a drain or do you just unbolt it each time to check it?

1. No mist. The inlet fitting has a long tube that directs the air about 1/2 the way down into the can and I have a wad of stainless steel wool packed up at the top of the can - held in place by some stainless wire. I hope this helps catch and filter any mist and oil droplets before they get to the air filter.

2. I have not checked yet. I only have about 500 miles on the new build.

3. I did build in a drain plug. It is the same size as the top AN fitting I may just run another tube from there to a better place for draining - like the oil drain hose.

Very nice.
Now your gonna be hooked on making nice little parts for all types of things.(Been a machinst for over 30 years)
One tip I'll give, is that when we have made those before, we install a draincock in them for ease of fluid removal.

what does the bottom look like?
does the hex top unscrew from the barrel?
can I use your idea or do you want to patent it?
