engine power

I have a 1996 Ultra Classic with 39,000 miles I am doing a engine mod now but want more reliable power next summer. Instead of doing $3000 of head work and ignition work I think I may put a Rev Tech 124 in the bike. The only draw back I can see is, I will not have cruise control. The engine comes with a Mukuni carb instead of injection. The engine is $4975.00 and 600 for the ignition and $400 labor so for roughly $6000.00 you would have a bad ass ultra. Also Rev Tech has a 2 yr 20,000 mile warranty, So what are the other draw backs besides no cruise control?.

Everything rev tech makes is junk..plain and simple, people may not come out and say it, but its junk, ill say it, u wanna go fast, call scott at hillside cycle, add some compression, nice head work, which wont cost you 3k......a nice camshaft and a triple digit 80 incher isnt outta the question, at a fraction of the cost.

I know a couple of people who have had trouble with the RevTech motors....and my local Indy agrees....not the best choice, for sure.

However, I do know a guy who put a RevTech 6 speed transmission in his '90 FXR, and 10K trouble free miles later, he says he's satisfied with the gearbox.....

They don't call it "Wreck-Tech" for nothing. I would look to a S&S or R&R engine for something I wanted to last if I were going to buy a complete engine. JMO

I put a cam/ compression bump in my Evo with no head work and was very happy with the power increase. I do almost all of my riding two up in and around the Hill Country in Texas. I may ride an Evo - but I have no issues keeping up with the Twin Cams riding at legal speeds ( or a little better ).

No matter what aftermarket engine you put in your scoot you have to ask yourself, "Will this company still be in business two years from now?" -Hard to say in this economy but of all the engine builders I'd say the safest bets are S&S and RevTech. S&S because they are big and widely used. RevTech because they are with Custom Chrome. But who knows? If things get any worse they could all be in trouble.

I've heard some complaints about some of the older 100 c.i. Rev Tech's but not much negative about the newer ones. I know a guy with two FXR's. One a pumped 80"er and the other a RevTech 100. He prefers the RevTech for all around power and reliability. I prefer HD but for a big old bagger I think I'd rather go for a bigger engine with a broader power range than a high compression cammed 80"er like I have in my FXR4.

Rev Tech
I had one and could make a list so long of all the problems it would end up boring ya.
to hit a few
bad quality control
parts are hard to find in stock.
I went through a period where CCI kept telling me they were waiting on the ship to dock with parts...three months!
i found a Indy in Dayton FL that carried a lot of R/T parts so I got what I needed.
CCI sucks period! not a bit of customer service. they act as if they dont own this make shift Korean company! and if what I heard is true they have dumped it. they will sell you a motor then tell you the company has changed hands and there is no warranty. check some of the chopper forums there are a lot of pissed of R/T owners hung out to dry.
REBUILT OR TORE DOWN three times in 45,000 miles
base gaskets leaking so tore it down to find scored clys. also. bored .010 NO HELP from R/T CCI. valve guide came loose in head tore down and also split cases to fix the crank bearing insert that was leaking motor oil in my primary. CLY. studs pulled out of case had to put helia coils in bla bla bla.it never ended. It did make good power after I pulled the mikuni and put a CV44mm and SE intake on it.
save your money.
If you want to buy a crate motor go with S&S .
Or Ultima has some good deals and everyone around here has had good luck with them.

sorry for the rant but talking R/T makes my blood boil!

Guy in my local shop had to send his motor back twice with failures within the first 10k miles-don't waste you money.
If you are looking for a bargain try Ultima-or step up to S&S.
