Bob Wood 43.5 Rebel 80 evo

I've have a 91 softtail that i built this spring. just started to jump on it and it's a rocket! The heads have been ported and flowed, i run 10 to 1 wiseco's, wood w6h cam, dyna 2000. but i'm toren with leaving the stock cv carb or moving up to a rebel 43.5 ? $$$ not sure if it's to much for this 80 ci? I can pull my buddies stroked fxr till 110 mph if i dont miss 4th gear! think i lean out at the point? running a 190 jet w/ dyno jet kit that was installed years ago. for a soft tail that looks stock i'm happy, but this motor want to run, it pull at 80 to 90 mph like i can't believe, but like everyone else i want more! love to see 90 to 100 hp, any help out there? like to learn how to start a new thread? sorry for jumping on this one.

That carb, with a Wood 8 cam, set @ 10.7-8 will show you those numbers in an 80" Evo, as long as the heads/tune are good.

I really like this cam and hate to change it, and your right about torque. This is a street bike and big hp numbers don't matter, it's how well it runs on the street that matters! i'm just debating whether to tune the cv which is a newer style carb or upgrade It? If I leave it on, I might replace the slide to a stock size hole and upgrade the needle with one of woods.

Most all Wood cams are torque-biased grinds.

Scott, Whats your opinion of the 43.5 over the stock cv carb? would you work the stock carb or upgrade it? I had Robertson's upgraded the valves and flowed the heads. Jimmy said they flowed really well, he mentioned that i'd need to change carbs. I like the cv style carb and he's infavor of the S&S E carb.

The Wood carb is one hellava carb, and it'll run circles around the OE cv.
Mike makes a valid poit as well, in suggesting a 42 Mikuni.
THe S&S may run almost as good, but have witnessed that carb consume more fuel doing so.

the Mikuni will slip onto your stock manifold, not sure you would need a larger one for your application, i found my Mikuni on Ebay at a decent price....

you want 100hp out of that 80 incher, no problem.
Just don't get the 42 mik.
Get a 45 mik instead.
Now you guys stop barking and listen up
I have run an 80 inch evo for years.
dual plug heads, red shift, and a 45 mike THAT I had to jet up to get it perfect.
Still gave me 35 around town.
It also put out 104 hp and was completely streetable.
A 42 will not cut it with decent head work and a bump stick with above .500 at the valve.
Your compression is just right for the street.
A good header is a requirement for good HP an torque specs so take a look at that also.
100hp 80 inchers are real an reliable.

Totally agree with the 100 hp, 80", as we have been there, in that part of town, many times as well.

Added a mikuni 42 to a similar build years ago. Huge difference versus the stock cv. Not familiar with the 43.5 rebel carb.
