Crank MFG choice

What's the word on stroked crank assembly manufacturers? Any to stay away from? S&S vs Ultima vs R&R? Not looking for strip performance, just reliability. While my bike is an EVO I thought the TC experience here would transfer. The Ultima is less $ but I haven't seen much comment on them. S&S appears to be an old favorite and I've read some good comments on R&R.

Why not send your crank to someone and have it welded, trued and balanced?

Coolmaker: I want to replace the stock crank with a 4 5/8" stroker unit. My question again is about the quality / reliability of various manufacturers. Specifically, are the Ultimte units OK? I've seen complete assemblies for about $600 from them. Interested to know if anybody has experience with Ultima assemblies. Thanks all!

springer- will become famous soon enough
Your bike is an EVO and you posted in the Twin Cam engine mods? Based on your first post you did it intentionally? Now you have a suggestion of welding and truing the crank that does not apply and just creates confusion and responses that have nothing to do with your question. This is why we have a EVO engine mods section to post questions about EVOs. In the future please post in the appropriate section to get help that applies and prevent further confusion.

Twin Cam experience does not transfer over since they are completely different animals. They are assembled different and require much different attention.

To answer your question, I use a 4 5/8 S&S crank in one of my bikes without problem. I beat on that bike and it takes it all. I can not speak for the others.

Thanks for the feedback Springer. My post in TC was intentional as I was looking for general opinion regarding specific manufacturers common to TC and EVO platforms. But given responses that have no relation to the specific question posed, I do see your point on how confusion can quickly creep into a thread. My mistake. I'll monitor the move and hope for an answer there. Ron
