OEM 'L' Cam vs. 'N' Cam

I am considering replacing the OEM 'N' cam in my new (1999) crate EVO motor, with a 1988-92 vintage 'L' cam. Looking at the specs for the two cams, it definitely appears the L is hotter, but I wonder how much hotter, and if gas mileage would be better or worse. Has anyone ever swapped an L with an N cam?
Thanks,
Joe

.472 (N) vs .495 (L) lift. Some other little things, but not as stuffy as the N grind. I believe the N grind was HD's worst EPA cam made.

Or you could put a mild performance cam in it, maybe an EV27, and be much better off.

My thoughts exactly...tons of mild options out there.
You have nothing to lose, and plenty to gain.
