96 ci S&S

Will a 96" S&S Evo engine bolt into a 1984 softail? Clearances? Mounting? Primary fit? Oil pump lines?

That's what I can think of offhand.

Thanks

it will fit without any issues. All alternator style engines the same primary mounting interface. So any engine case, factory or after market that has an alternator will interface with any primary drive case or system.

As for the oil lines, the S&S pump has multiple oil ports for easy integration into any chassis.

I have a 96" evo in my softail. It is tight to remove the rear rocker box but it can be done.

The 96" is a good engine.

Sounds like the 96" would be a good option. The rear rocker on the 80" in there now is pretty tight, so that shouldn't be much different than I'm used to.

Thanks

stock Evo Bt cylinders are 5.550" tall. The 96 cylinders are 5.565" tall. Differentce in engine heights is .015". Your softail frame should have a hole in the frame, under the seat and right above the onebolt in the rear rocker box that is covered by the frame. Many people enlarge this hole to make removing the rear rocker box easier. Done correctly a long 3/16" ball end allen driver, magnetized makes removing that bolt real easy. The other seven bolts can be removed with regular tools. Once the top piece is off, the others are not that bad.

The hole is big enough now for the bolt to fit. I use a magnet on a telescoping handle to retrieve it.

Thanks for the dimensions.

That would be a big kick in the pants over/above your OEM 80".
Another option is to buy their short block and use your heads, etc.
May be less costly.
