I just got the new P&A catalog. This is a dino product, and they're calling for a 10,000 mile change cycle in the primary and 20,000 in the transmission. I think I'll pass too.

Of course all this says to me is that you could run those mileages with any quality lubricant in those applications.

Yea, WTF Why change for the sake of change? I just found this out this weekend when I went to buy the HD semi-syn that I've been using. MoCo salesperson says it must be OK since MoCo obviously knows what the're doin'. I passed. Looks like it's time for a full syn in the trans - either Red Line or Bel Ray. I'm not a fan of the same stuff in all holes either

Just got this from the drive train specialist at Amsoil concerning the new Formula + oil. So it looks like Harley is going to make 100% markup on a cheap tranny and primary oil. Probably more cost in the label and bottle than in the oil.

"The new Harley Formula + oil is the viscosity of a 80W-90 gear lube/20W-50 engine oil. It has very little additive content and just a splash of EP. The amount of EP used in the Formula + is so small, it's almost not there. Overall it looks like a very inexpensive oil. It is also a petroleum oil. Our MCV will is still the recommended oil for the application. "

HD is recommending Formula+ for the new six-speed trannies too. You really think they would recommend a crappy lube when they got warranties to honor on all these bikes? I'm not saying it's great lube, just not taking Amsoil's word for it either. They're out to sell oil too.

I know some people don't want to be confused with facts, but it is a cheap oil period. This just goes to show that you don't need anything special for a harley tranny. They are bullet proof. When Amsoil tested the new Syn3 when it first came out they said it was a good oil and Harley actually spent good money on it. Amsoil spends a lot more money on testing and making oils than Harley does so believe who you want. Not trying to start an arguement, but just stating the facts as I know them.

Sooo, since you are openly calling it crap, and are advertising Amsoil, is Amsoil calling it crap? I'd watch out or you might get caught between H-D and Amsoil

I didn't use the word crap you did. I said based on the info I posted it was a cheap oil. If you go to www.oilhelp.com and look at the testing you will see the results of several different oils and they are all named. Amsoil has never been sued for posting this info and naming names. I will take my chances with HD and Amsoil.

Well as I say use what you want, change often.

Or use amsoil and extend those times with better protection your choice.

I have used it all, Red Line, Royal Purple, Mobile, Amsoil, Castrol, Castrol Dino, Harley Dino. Filters have been Harley, Fram, Amsoil, Wix, Napa.

I have stopped at Amsoil for now. Run the Strait 60w Racing in the summer, 10w40 winter, their filter. I hope to have to do only 2 oil changes a year with a new filter at 3500 miles as I average 14,000 miles a year. If I exceed that to 20,000 this year then I would go 5000 mile on the oil, new filter then 5000 more and a change to winter oil and new filter, I am still not even close to breaking this Amsoil down in those miles.

Again its all good and I say dino every 2500 will do it.

I just like to use the best possible product when you consider the cost of 10quarts of oil and 4 filters for a year, I would say roughly 120.00 or so, it is the same cost as a 2500 dino change with filter for the same miles.

You just get to use what I feel is the best oil product on the market for that 120 bucks or so.

Why do you have to be a smart ass about it? I asked a simple question, that's it. I didn't knock Amsoil. I said nothing bad about your product. That makes me a person who doesn't want to be confused with facts? Now you know what I think? I think you sell Amsoil for a living, and you want to be a punk when someone asks a legit question.. so I have no confidence in anything you say.

I am sorry you took offence to my post. Please accept my apology. Yes I do make my living selling Amsoil and also contribute several hundred dollars in advertising to this site. If you would take the time to review some of my previous post you will see I don't have a history of blasting other company's products and always try to post accurate info and let the chips fall where they fall.

Hey no problem. I apologize for getting pissed off about it. I probably wasn't in the best mood and should have just ignored it all.
