Corrosion? on oil cooler
Bought the HD touring oil cooler. Either the inlet or outlet flange on the radiator has white corrision on it. Sort of looks like calcium. Went abck to dealer two more had it. Some kind of inhibitor?
Thinking about bringing to gas station and blowing out? Is that to much pressure?
Anything special to watch for when installing this?
Thanks for the help.

Mine had no corrosion on it. For the price I think a new one would be good.
When I installed mine the big nut that holds the adaptor needs to be real tight. I don't have a torque rating for what I did I just cranked it down. The weak spot seems that it likes to turn when you remove the filter and then it will leak. I have 13,600 on my 04 and not a single drop has leaked. Every oil change I check the hose clamps to make sure all is good. My buddy put his on at the same time and his leaked on the first change. His is now cranked down.
I went from 270+ to 220-230 in the Arizona heat.

Three of them had the white powder on it. It does scrap off with a knife. Looks powdery.

I got a trip to Tennesse this weekend wanted. But reluctant to put this one on. One trip shouldn't be bad, hopefully Also early in year hopefully no 100 degrees.
The local dealer was 15%, now 10%. Might say screw it and order from 20% off.

I bought a used one on ebay. No corrosion on it. It looked like new. I flushed it several times with paint thinner. I filled it up, shook it, and then ran the fluid through a coffee filter looking for any debris. None. I also flushed it w/ brake cleaner from a spray can, filtered it too and then blew it out with air. I used new oil lines to avoid debris too. Works like it should and no worries. Good luck.

I wouldn't be concerned with it. Flush it off and install it. Once in service, there should be no further problems.

So flush with paint thinner. Do I need to be careful when blowing it out? I have compressed air for cleaning computers. Was going to bring it to gas station, don't have compressor.

You won't hurt it by just passing air through it or just let it dry out over night.

I am not sure if it is corrision or just what it looks like inside. Has anybody seen in there? Is it smooth metal or pourous surface?

poured some mineral spirits in there. Strained though coffe filter but didn't see anything. Would have to big and dark too.
Blew some bottle air through. Got draining upside down. Put on tomotrrow. stayed tuned for dumb ass questions.
White sh$t is still there. If anything hopefully filter catches.

If the cooler is made of aluminum then this is corosion and I would not use it. It has not been stored properly to keep corison from attacking the metal and what about the welds and other parts that you can't see. How many criters are down in the tubes? I can see you taking a chance on a used part, but not new.

20 minutes on hold with Harley and they tell me to have the dealer call theere tech support. Thanks for nothing.
Looking I see the same thing. Not sure if it some kind of coating. Possibbly the reason I see it on that flange is that is where it held when coating it.

Why didn't you tell the adapter for the filter was 7/16? I tried making one out of nuts and bolt but was tricky to push in. Sent GF to sears for one.
Later-neither sears or hardware had one. Try to make one I guess. Try napa tomorrow if I have to.

Got it on. Made up fitting with 1.4 bolts and jam nuts. Will still get one.
Wires were differant then describe for stator. Got up and over, not down and under. Little fooling around with them.
I put the adapter for filter on last, instructions said firt. That way could put the prefabbed hose on, and position where little tension. One clamp stripped, had one. Tigh get hands in, especially with lowers.
