Absolutely! Redline with "Shockproof" is the best. Been using it for years and use Redline in all three holes and change every 5000. You can do engine every 5K and tranny & primary every 10K if you want, but only if you use top shelf stuff like Redline. Last time I changed my fluids I think we had 5700 miles and the gear oil was as pink and thick as the day we put it in.

i also use the redline shock proof heavy, "pepto bismol" and it seems to quiet things down a bit. also by using b&m trick shift automatic trans fluid in the primary, that seems to help also. not as smooth as the metric bikes, but i loose quite a bit of the clunk when going into gear and the shifts seem smoother. O' reilleys auto parts now sells trick shift.

Been using this for awhile, switched from Redline. I like it much better:

Heavy Duty Platinum 6-speed Transmission Oil

I use Bel Ray 85-120 in my tranny's. Remember there are needle bearings in the tranny and you want them to roll not slide.

I also use Red Line V-Twin transmission oil with Shock Proof. Kinda looks like/reminds me of Pepto-Bismol....different taste tho. Did smooth-out shifts!

Its all ok. A while back I researched the wear factors on all the popular brands. It seems that Amzoil has the lowest wear factor of all. I run it in all three holes and that seems to work just nicely, weather I am cruiseing or running fast. No leaks no problems, and yes I have had some indys tell me they got something better, but if its running good why f**k with it.My scooter never goes into a Harley garage, for the same reason.adios T. Everybody has their preferences, but just to throw in my 2 cents worth, I use all AMZOIL products in my bike!

I don't know about " best" , they all make that claim but, I've had great results with Belray gear saver in the past, and now I'm using Amsoil severe gear on my 12 SG, is quieter and smoother shifting, I'm sure most would agree anything is better than the crap that's in it from factory . JMO

The clunk when going into gear has nothing to do with the transmission lube, and everything to do with the primary lube.

What I have found through personal experience was to get the best shifting, the clutch and primary chain tension had to be adjusted correctly and using ATF gave me the best shift in my bikes. The fluid in the tranny has very little to do with the shifting characteristics unless it is masking something out of adjustment and then it is just a bandage.
