Amsoil Severe Gear

Anybody using Amsoil Severe Gear 75-140 in their 2009 2010 FLHX tranny, and if so did you install it at the 1000 service mile interval? I ran it in my evo with excellent results but that was a tried and true 5 speed. Thanks

Go ahead and use it. You will like it.
I use the Mobile 75-140 because I don't have access to the Amsoil Gear oil.
Dealer recommended using the Mobil 1 at first oil change.

I ran Syn-3 up to 30,000 miles and just poured Amsoil 20-50 engine in the primary and engine and the Severe Gear 75-140 in the tranny. My transmission is quieter and seems to shift smoother, and the engine is quieter, and I have been told by several mechanics that I can run the transmission lube for 50,000 miles minimum.

You may want to run 75w-90 or the 75w-110 in Vermont.

Yeh, here in N. Nv it can get pretty hot but fairly cold during the winter. If the weather is decent I'll ride if it's above 20 degrees.
So I use the 75-90 and it works great year round.

My Dad uses the 75-140 in his 09' Ultra because he is in Florida most of the time. I use 75-90 year round.

Amsoil suggestion

Amsoil suggest 75W-140 for Harley 6 speed transmissions.

There is really no firm recommendation based on if it is a 6 or 5 speed when it comes to a true synthetic unless you are in a really cold climate all riding season. Synthetics was created to give a wider temperature spread that it can be used in over conventional fluids. I have used the 75w 140 Amsoil in 30 degree temperatures with no issues. The only shifting problem I had at that temperature was getting the feeling back in my foot from frost bite. It really comes down to your comfort level in choosing a gearlube or a 20w 50 in your tranny.

Amsoil severe gear 75W-110 in my tranny. Smooth as silk (or smooth as a vtwin can be).
