EVO MICK wants to know Dino or Syn?
Primary Fluid what to use?

I'm putting a new gasket in my primary because it was leaking and all that crappy stuff. But I am out of that Primary/Transmission fluid from the Harley dealer ship. I have an extra bottle of that 85/140 Bel ray Gear Saver that I used for my transmission. I am wondering if I could use that fluid or should I stick with the stuff from Harley?

There are several threads out there on this. You do NOT want to use the heavy gear oil in the primary. I use Synthetic ATF (AMSOIL) and love it.

I would not put gear oil in my primary. Type F ATF would be best, but any 10-40 dino oil works just fine.

Go for the ATF "F" if you have an OEM clutch. Being new to the HD scene I've read the threads and found this to be pretty decent. I noticed that the first gear engagement when cold was MUCH better.

The type F may feel a bit abrupt. Dexron varients work well.

Strange putting an oil thread in the oil section of the forum. Redundant maybe.

Hmmmm. I participate in a gun forum where the "old salts" mock/bust on the new guys asking questions that may have been asked before. Get over it, we are just trying to learn about our bikes. Not everyone has the time to read and review past questions and answers. I've learned lot's already from some pretty cool people here. Thank you

There are lots of cool people here and part of being here is taking a mock/bust now and then. It really is in fun and the new guy is the one that usually gets it.
