Oil temp and color

Hi guys,

I've had a short thread on this in the softail section but maybe it actually belongs here.

Last week I did an oil/filter change on my 07 FXST, V&H big radius pipes/fuelpak, 5000 miles (Mechanically stock otherwise). I changed out regular mobil one for the mobil one v twin. Prior to the O/C the bike ran at 220 even on the hottest days, after the change it was about 80deg out and it went up to 240. From searching I see this is not uncommon, I still feel its a little hot.

Since I forgot to stand up the bike when I did the first change I knew there was a little oil left in it, since it only took 2.5 qts instead of 3, I decided to flush the system by doing another o/c. Well I've attached a couple of pics the oil darkened substantially in the 100 miles I rode it. Is it likely the 1/2qt left in the bike caused this or may I be looking at something else. Thanks.

Bah, the system won't allow me to post the same pics twice, even with a name change. The pics are in the thread below. Thanks.

Motor oil is a engine cleaner and a lube. The new oil was darkened by all the gunk deposits within your engine/crank/bearings/lifters/ect, resulting from running dirty oil.

This can not be good for your engine, might catch hog flu or somethin.

Best to change your oil often because cleanliness is next to godliness, even in engines too!
