oil change on a 103"

I just had a 103" built in my 07 ultra with the andrews 54 cams and heads. I was told to change the motor oil every 1200 miles. Does that sound a littleover kill? I want to do what is best for the motor. Thanks for any info

on a new motor I change at 100.200,500 and 1000. Every 5,000 after that. And I just use cheap Havoline 20/50 for the first 3 changes. Good syn at 1,000.

First change at 500 miles then change to synthetic and change it every 5,000 after that. I worked mine to where it's due for a change at every multiple of 5K on the odometer. OOPS, I just noticed I am a little overdue for my 55K oil change, gotta go!

Ya, thats the way to go. been doin it like that for years. never a problem. make sure all the break in cr@p gets out of the engine. then pick your poison ( good syn oil ) and ride the hell out of it. enjoy !! my $.02

Engine oil is a engine cleaner and not only a lube. Because of E10 alcohal fuels and other stuff entering your engine and into your oil you should change it often. I change mine about every 2000 miles or so.

I'm a Rebel. I change my oil every 5,000 miles and I use Mobile 1 15w-50. When I did my 95" Head Quarters build I changed my oil at 500 miles and then went syn and every 5,000 miles after that. Changing a good synthetic oil any sooner than 5,000 miles is wasting perfectly good oil. There are guys who have sent out samples of their oil for testing and they always come back great at 5,000 miles.

The HD service manual states to change the engine oil every 5k miles. More often then that is pure overkill and a waste of time/money/oil.

There are no studies that I am aware of that show that to be the case. All I've seen (on this forum and others) are uninformed people expressing their opinions, not facts.
