Question oil fill

i just recently changed my oil from hd 20 50 to amsoil 2050, so far im happy with the oil, dont know if its worth the extra cash don't really notice a difference. the only problem is on the fill stick its above the fill line when the bike is hot i used a hd filter.. i put four quarts in like hd called for by the way the bike is a 08 road king classic.. should i be nervous about the oil above the fill line..

yes, these HDs have enough problems with oil stuff ( venting & sumping ) overfilling just adds to it. the best way to fill is 1\2 qt low cold on the stand. thats what i do, and i'm sure many others as well.

3 to 31/2 quarts will usually do it unless you drained the crankcase also, which you shouldnt do. Anyway get a turkey baster or oil sucker from your auto parts store and suck the excess out.

Good advice................never............never overfill a Harley. Change oil and filter and add 3.25 quarts, ride bike until it is HOT and add oil until it reads just below full.

Totally agree with others, never overfill, I put in 3 then warm it up (ride easy around the block) and slowly bring up on the stick. I usually keep it 1/4 to 1/3 of a quart low. I have gone as much as a 1/2 qt. low. This helps with the blowby oil, and it doesnt affect the motor any. I have done this for quite some time with several internal inspections showing no probs........

Don't know about your '08 RK, but my '07 Ultra calls for 3 1/2 quarts at oil/filter change.

My dip stick has two sets of marks....cold engine and hot engine. I use the cold engine marks when changing the oil. Takes exactly 3-1/2 qts to make it happy. I've looked at it when stopped on long rides and it never goes above the high mark in the hot engine scale.
