Re oil coolers

Hi all, I currently have a 2 row oil cooler on my 04 Fatboy, hooked up the 'normal' way via the outlets next to the oil filter....however, the cooler doesn't seem to have made an appreciable difference to the temp according to the thermometer in the oil cap and doesn't seem to get above warm to the touch...I suspect this may be due to an inadequate flow. I was wondering if the would be a problem with re routing the return line to the oil tank to go through the cooler before it enters the tank? This way it should have full pressure and flow and all oil would go through the cooler....thoughts Gentlemen?

t-stat is going bad in the adapter. Just had to replace one in my son's softail for the same reason.. We went to a Jagg adapter w/o t-stat... Much better flow.
