Syn3 in tranny and primary?
I would like to hear from some of you using Syn3 in both the primary and tranny after 10,000 to 15,000 miles or more. Any issues? Have any of you gone back to Formula+? If so, why? I recenty switched to syn3 in the tranny and primary, and I am running Amsoil 20w-50 in the engine.

Then why not run Amsoil in all three holes? You can you know. There's also Amsoil Supershift for the primary and Severe Gear in three weights for the tranny. All three types of oil are extended drain.

I ran syn 3 in all three until 12k. Syn3 in your primary will make your clutch slip after awhile because of the anti friction additive. I put amsoil 20/50 syn eng. and MB1 75/90 in trans. Shifts a little better.

Yeah, I'm sure that's why Harley specifically recommends Syn3 for use in the primary and uses it as factory fill in the primary of all CVO bikes.

There are better alternatives. I give a chit what HD "recommends".

Ford recommenda 5W-20 In most of their engines................do you think that has to do with the EPA or mileage ratings per gallon or do you think they are concenred that you get 200, 000 miles out of the motor?????????????

Huh? What does that have to do with using Syn3 in the primary? Harley specifically developed Syn3 to be used in all three holes. Are there better lubricants for all three holes? Absolutely. But saying that your clutch will slip if you use Syn3 in the primary because of the friction modifiers is ridiculous.
Also, you may want to do a little research on the 5w20 and engine longevity. There are plenty of documented cases over on BITOG of engines still going strong with 100,000+ miles on steady diet of 5w20.

Dude. Do some experimenting and find out for yourself.
"Same oil in all three holes" is not, and has never been, the best approach for your bike.
I'm pretty sure HD no longer endorces that recommendation anyway and I'd be curious as to why they stopped.
Run what you want. Don't waste your time here trading posts if you are not willing to listen to what others have to say.

Syn 3 in the primary will work OK, but there are better choices available. I've used many 20W-50 synthetic motor oils that are JASO MA certified and have never had any clutch slippage, but I did start to experience a "grabbiness" feeling in the clutch action. I switched to Bel-Ray 80W Gear Saver Transmission Oil which is also their "Primary Chaincase Lube" and will never go back to using motor oil in my primary again. The Bel Ray product is great and my clutch action is smooth as silk!
