Personal Findings
Had to swap out my clutch cable last night and decided, since the clutch and derby covers were off, to do a little swap on the primary and tranny fluids. I normally run Amsoil 20/50 in all 3 holes. This time around I decided to dump Mobil synthetic ATF in the primary and SX3 75/140 synthetic in the tranny. Turned out to be an excellent decision. I am not knocking Amsoil and I fully intend to keep using it in the mill however, my clutch plates have never hooked up like they do now and the smooth quiet shifting with the SX3 is like night and day. I started out using HD primary/tranny fluid before I switched to Amsoil and they were less than impressive. Loud clunky shifts and finding neutral from a stop was impossible. The Amsoil was far better but I gotta say this last change is the best yet. Better yet, the Mobil and the SX3 were 1/2 the price of the Amsoil. That's a box of beer around these parts.
And that folks is my 2 cents for the day.

I use Amsoil Supershift ATF in the primary and Severe Gear in the tranny. You would see better results because you switched to the correct oils designed for the purpose you're using them for. Granted the Amsoil 20/50 is ok to use in the primary and tranny (so is Syn3), but it's still designed to be more of an engine oil than a primary (wet clutch) or gear oil. Would you use engine oil in the transmission of your car or truck? Probably not. So why use engine oil in the tranny of your bike?
I've seen hundreds of posts on here about the great oil debate. Bottom line is do what you think is best. Yeah, and my opinion is the ATF and Gear Oil are better than using engine oil in the primary and tranny. Do what suits you, but remember, like many things, better is the enemy of good enough.

I
Forgive me, but once again the comparison is not fair or accurate; apples to oranges. Most of us have switcherd to using the proper fluid in each hole. The convenience , if there is really any, of using one fluid for all three holes is at a trade between conveince and functionality. If you were to put the Severe Gear in the trans and the Synthetic ATF in the primary, you would have been equally as impressed. The cost issue is a non issue for me, I trust Amsoil and prefer to use a known product, just personal preferrence.

Exactly.....the convenience of 20/50 in all 3 holes, if any, does not compare to the functionality of the proper fluids in the corresponding holes.
Due to the unavailibility of Amsoil Severe Gear and Amsoil ATF in this neck of the woods I went with the aforementioned. Whole point is, they both perform far better than 20/50 in the primary/tranny.

I agree. I cannot go to Auto Zone and pick up any Amsoil Product either. It is easier than that..................I call george Douglas, place and order eith him and in 2 days at the max it appears at my door step. Again, not trying to argue with anyone, it is easy to acquire Amsoil.
