Lucas oil additive

Has anyone tried the lucas oil additive in their twin cam engines?
Any thoughts, good, bad?

Lucas makes great products, but with today's oil's (syn or dino)
I found there is no difference in performance by using it. JMHO

I have used it before. I bought some to use with my Mobile 1 at the last oil change on my NT. I was hoping to cut some of the top end noise. I think it cost me $15.00 and didn't do a darn thing that I could tell.

I am getting alot of top end noise , sounds like a sewing machine, Was curious since lucas additive is thick, maybe it would quiet the top end a bit. Tried mobil v-twin 20/50 it made it worse, went back to 20/50 dino better, but noise is still there, not as bad though.

"Engine Noise"

I think we make too much out of the noise issue. It seems to me that people are equating "engine wear " with "engine noise". Additives are designed to help eliminate wear, why are we looking for noise dampening from a wear additive? I feel that the noise is due to the better flow characteristics of synthetic oil sometimes doesn't hide the mechanical noise in the HD motor. If someone can show me that the noise a motor make is directly related to wear going on inside that motor, I will start using additives.

Men,
Iam with HDSG ! I think the noise thing people are talking about is exactly what it is NOISE ! Heck with all them moving parts its gotta make noise, I haven,t owned a HD that wasn,t noisy, Buy louder pipes if the sewing machine tick bothers ya, I take care of my bike and just ride.

The info I gather off of BITOG (an oil website) is that the Lucas oil additive will only thicken your oil as it has no beneficial additives in it. Futhermore, a test using it shows that it caused the oil it was mixed with to become filled with air. I've used it in the past but got absolutely no benefit from it, and after reading a virgin oil analysis that shows that it doesn't contain anything beneficial I see why...using it actually means you have less of your good oil with it's additives in your engine to protect it with! It is a group 1 bright stock oil and that is it! For the money it costs, I can see why they can advertise like they do - it has to be a money maker!

I think some of Lucas's products are fine, but not this one. I use to use their fuel treatment as well but have switched to TCW3 rated two stroke oil at one ounce to five gallons of fuel...a much more cost effective solution.

Not saying to use it, but STP at least has extra zinc and phosphorus and I think calcium to add some protection as well as viscosity.

It is strange how with some engines using a slightly thinner oil like 15w40 or going to a synthetic 20w50 will make them run quieter and on other engines, it seems to make them more noisy. I say if you don't like the way it sounds, try different oils til you find one that you like...as long as they are quality oils of the right viscosity and are changed when they should be, your engine will be fine...the oil doesn't have to say "Motorcycle" on the bottle to be a good oil for your engine.
