Advice on Oil

Hi Guys, I'm new to HD. Just got a 08 Road King Classic with about 1800mi on it. Oils (that I want) and filter are not readily available here in the Philippines and it takes a bit of time to get them from the US. My question is, is it ok to change my oil without changing filters temporarily until I get (about a month) all the stuff I want then change it again? My concern is that, I'm not sure if it has undergone a service maintenance at 1k and I want to use synthetic oil to help cool down engine a bit (ambient temp ranges from 80-90F). Available oil for the moment is the Castrol Racing 4T SAE 10W-40.

Your thoughts are really appreciated. Thanks

Sure, the fresh oil couldn't hurt.
Now, about that oil...
AFIK racing oil dosen't have anti corrosion and possibly other desirable additive packages needed for street use. Find some oil rated for diesel truck engines, that is what H-D recommends when V-Twin rated oil isn't available.

Hi milehog, thanks for the quick reply. Can you recommend a diesel engine oil (brand) so I can compare them to what I can source out here in the Philippines.

You should be able to get Shell Rimula in the Philippines. That is a top notch oil.

Chevron Delo 400 and Shell Rotella T are popular diesel oils that have proven themselves. Some of our members run them sucessfully. Dunno if the brand names are the same in the Philippines.
By the way, my all time favorite radio personality, Art Bell, lives in your beautiful country.

Edit; Gary7 beat me by one minute. He knows quite a bit about oil, listen to him.

Odontek,

Let me know if this helps, I can door to door stuff to you in the Phils if you need it jusy let me know what you need. Also if it is something that you would be interested in you can set up a pay pal account to pay for it. My OL is Filipina and sends stuff over there all the time.
