Gave Amsoil a try!
Thats right, I gave in and baught some Amsoil and filter for my bike from a local dealer on the other side of the lake. Put it in last night and went for a ride and I am hearing a bit more rocker arm noise than before and I am not sure what to think at this point. I am wondering if maybe the Amsoil filter may be too restrictive to flow oil to the top end as good as the HD filter. I may go and get an HD filter today and see if that fixes the problem. As far as lower temps, cant really tell, dont have a temp gage. I will ride to the HD dealer wich is about 45 miles away to get a filter and see how it does by the time i get there. The noise seems to be at around the 2500 rpm range only, above or below that its quiet. Any Idea's?

I'm on my secound cam, each made little more or less valve noise at different rpm's. I think each cam has it's own sweet spot.

you are just hearing the echoing coming from your empty wallet, you will get used to it after a while.

Well I wasnt able to get by HD today to get a filter,so the Amsoil filter will have to do till I can research this a little more. The dealer that i got the oil from said that it flowed better than the HD. My oil light does go off immediately when started so its got pressure. Have read that this has been reported by other users about syn oil and more valve train noise, so i guess i will just keep a close eye and ear on this and hope George has some input on this.

Amsoil filter is equal to or better than HD for both flow and filtering ability. I've found that when I use any type syn oil, you seem to hear more engine noise...rocker arms/tappets, etc. especially in the V-Twins. As far as flow is concerned, as long as you are using the specified weight in the right holes, you are good to go. The usual difference when using syn oil vs. dino is more noise with the syn and the syn oil appears to run a little cooler.

Well wonders never cease. I can't believe that dino crusader has drank the poison. LOL You are not the first to use our oil so you are not a pioneer so just go out and ride like you never heard of synthetic oil before. I just spent a week up at Amsoil's headquarters and seen some of the testing they just did on the HD 360 straight 50 weight oil. It shears back to a 40 weight just like their syn 3 does. The fact that it does this though does not make it a bad oil. I really was surprised though that a straight grade oil would do that in a Harley. Let me know through a PM if you like what you had to pay your local dealer for the Amsoil.

WOW...............I mean.............. WOW
Welcome Brotha.................You have made a great choice.
I really didn't notice any more or less noise from the top end. As I understand the Amsoil filter is no more restrictive than the HD. It sure is more efficient than the HD Filter. Give the Amsoil thing a chance, I really think you will be happy with the results.

George, this table from the Amsoil motorcycle oil study shows that while Syn3 sheared quite a bit, it still stayed in grade. The Lucas and Bell-Ray sheared out of grade down to a 40 wt.

Gary,
This is true of most motorcycle oils shearing back by one grade in many cases. Amsoil's new white paper coming out very soon will show that HD360 50 weight also shears back one grade so it really doesn't seem to be just a multi-grade issue or even what base oil is being used. The sheared back oil doesn't seem to hurt it's wear protection though. I have an oil report from one of my customers that did a test on his oil with 3800 miles on the syn3 and it sheared back to a 40 weight. Lucas knows they have a foaming problem with their motorcycle oil and are working on that it.

Well i have been running my bike pretty hard this week to work plus a few trips for the ol lady and put 1100 miles on this Amsoil. I cant realy tell if the temps are lower or not, dont have a temp gage, and the only thing that seems to bother me is this valve train tick at about 2500 rpm's. Its allways had the norm sound of a harley but now is louder than with dino, not bad like something wrong just a little more noticable. Not going to worry about it too much for now. Just updating thats all.

I think when I switched from HD syn3 to Amsoil I noticed a little more top end noise,
but I don't think it was any louder, I think I was just hearing the top end noise better due to less bottom end noise. I
I understand that the filter has nano technology which will filter much smaller particles,
but there isn't very much of that media in the filter, going to cut mine open after the next oil change and see for myself.
I may switch to the Purolator filter if the Amsoil media content supports it.
Anyways I agree, you got some of the best stuff out there, just go and ride!
Cheers!
