FXDWG Correct oil-level in engine???

Hi! Got 10 different facts about correct oil-level in my Wide Glide TC88 engine... The (Swedish) owners book says 3 qt (2,8 l.), the Haynes book says 3,5 qt (3,3 l.) None of the books tells if it´s overhaul or just oil-change. I´m just changing oil and filter. I also have different facts about how to check the level. I THINK the bike should be on it´s sidestand??? Correct??
Sadly that it´s so hard to get the right facts....
So I would be SKITGLAD (swedish word: "****-happy", often used in Sweden ) if you got my answer!!!
BEST REGARDS, Krille from Sweden

check oil level

My '99 FXDWG book says on the kickstand.. One oil change it took 3 1/2 quarts .. the next one just 3 quarts. Yes changed the oil filter, just in case someone thought I might've cheated a bit and not done it.

I've got a 2004 model. Last change of oil and filter, the engine took 2-2/3 quarts (85 oz). This put the level just a tad below the full mark on the dipstick.

The change before that, I put 2-7/8 quarts (92 oz). The level was borderline over the full mark.

Yes, check the oil with the bike on the kickstand (jiffy stand as the MOCO calls it).

Be sure and get the bike up to operating temp so the oil will drain better and it will also make sure any tiny contaminants are in suspension in the oil when you drain it. Get the bike as level as you can while it's draining and be patient. (I put a piece of 2x4 under the kickstand) After you change the filter and reinstalled the crankcase drain plug pour in close to 3 quarts and then warm the bike up again...and then check it. Add a little as necessary....or not. Be sure you remove the 2x4 before checking oil level....on the kickstand.
Good luck,
Steve...Pensacola

Thank´s!!! This forum and you all are great! It´s not that I´m hopless stupid in engines, have had many bikes but this is my first Harley. And I have never had a vehicle where no one knows the spec... Even the "Authorised Harley workshops" in Sweden says different answers... And I will make a complaint to Haynes about their "Harley TC 88" book, it has so many serious wrong-writings that it´s impossible to trust the book...
Thank´s for your answers!!!
I have changed all the oils, and now I´m changing the handlebar to a 37 inch dragbar and 4,5 inch risers, led-backlight and som other stuff!

Olja rätt nivå

2,4 liter går det i på ett ungefär om du bytt filter med, så är det med det

oil

2,4 liters with oil filter change if you pull the engine apart and drain everything you probably could pour in 2,8 liters but that´s not the case i guess.

if the bike is cold put it on the sidestand and pull the dipstick out the level should be in the middle of the measuring part of the dipstick, write in swedish to me and i explain if you want ok?

en som vet
