Can you reset the odometer?

I put the combo analog speedo/tach (PN - 74774-11) on my 2011 heritage and now I'm trading it in and moving to a touring bike. A friend of mine wants the gauge but the instructions say after 31 miles the odometer is locked to my bikes ECM and putting on another bike will result in the odometer displaying "VEH ERR".

My question is, can this gauge be reset to work on a new/different bike?

Thanks,

Joe

Probably can take it to a dealer and they will send it back to the factory for reset. Check with a dealer.

When I was a kid, it was possible to attach an electric drill to a odo and run it backwards and watch the numbers get smaller and smaller. I once walked onto a used car lot in Los Angeles and noticed just about every car has close to 50,000 miles on it. I'm glad those days are over.

Yes it can be reset or cleared by a dealer. Maybe not the miles but the veh err code can be. Had a few done here. Only the speedo/tach from HD have that issue, after market is ok.

Thanks for the replies. I'm heading to my dealer tomorrow and I'll check with them about resetting it. When I bought the gauge I had about 600 miles on my bike and the odometer was set by the ECM to show the correct mileage. I'm guessing if I can get it "unlocked" from my ECM, when my buddy puts it on his bike, his ECM will set the odometer.

Merry Christmas everyone.

The HD speedos I have dealt with retain the original bike mileage until moved to another bike.
Mileage will continue to add up when you move the speedo to another bike.
