Question maybe someone here has an idea...

Ok here's the problem...I went to the store last night and came out turned on the ign switch and the speedo and tach dash lights didn't come on....I turned on the run switch and the engine light didn't come on but the red security light did and stayed on all the way home. The bike started ok and ran good but the speedo and tach didn't work at all. I also noticed the turn signals and brake lights didn't work. I've checked my fuses...they're ok, I took the fairing off and checked for chaffed wires.....they are ok...I looked at the harness down by the neck it looked ok....any ideas? I need some....thanks oh it's a 05 FLHT Standard.....

I would try inspecting the back of the ignition switch.

Do you have an alarm in that? I had to tear mine out, a while back I had a ghost in the unit and it would come on at real high revs. I am not saying yours has the same symptoms but I have found that alarms are not worth the plastic they are made of. If not there try your manual and see if there is a schematic or diagram showing that block of wiring and what and where it is all tied together.
Also the manual will help you troubleshoot when an electric item is not working where to start.
Really sounds like when I lose a wire at the ignition switch where one wire caused my Blinkers and tail light to go but everything else has juice.
Hope this helps
Regards

I had a problem with mine, different symptoms but it wound up being the ECM plug wasn't locked. it's the big plug under the seat and it has a locking mechanism that was half way lose.

Talking

well guys I found the problem...after checking every inch of wire and all the connectors......the idea of a blown fuse kept coming into my head....as I had said I used a fluke meter to check continunity of all the fuses....well I got a bug up my ass and checked the ohms on each one...even though the fuses had continuity the ohms reading on one of them was really low. I changed out the fuse and presto.....everything works.......I guess it just goes to show you....there's more than one way to check a circut. I want to thank you for the help.......see ya on the road..

glad you figured out your problem. I'll file that information away in my memory for future use, which I hope I don't need.

Glad you found the problem but something here bothers me, you say the ohm reading on one was really low it should be a fuse should have 0 ohms .
