Something bad happened

I got these great fog lamps for my 08 Electra Glide. I drilled the bars, ran the wires, tied into the accessory plug under the seat, so I could use the switch on the fairing. Everything worked great until I used the cigarette lighter then POOF! No Fog lights, no lighter, Zip. All the Fuses in the fuse block look good. Any suggestions? I cant even locate the fuse for the Cigg lighter, I know it has to have one somewhere. I wasn't aware the the cigg lighter had anything to do with the Accessory switch. Apparently I am in over my head, Please help!

You are pulling too many amps. You will need to run a dedicated power line for your fog lamps, using a relay is your best option. I would secure everything and bring the bike to someone who knows how to run the wires. I would think a car stereo place, or a small bike shop should be able to take care of you, if you play with the wires and do not know what you are doing, you run the risk of starting a fire.

Thanks Greg, I'm all over the amp thing. What's the lighter have to do with the blank accessory switch? gotta be tied in somehwere.

I'll bet the cig lighter is tied into the ACC circuit ahead of the ACC switch if it will work whether the switch is on or not, so when you pushed in the lighter you pulled too big a load and blew a fuse or a fuse link. Did you pull the fuses to check them? I have also seen blown fuses look just fine but wouldn't pass a continuity check with a meter.

Yeah there is a fuse labeled "ACC" in the box somewhere, you should also have one or two labeled "spare". In my bike it's a 15 amp fuse, go ahead and swap it just to check.

I would guess you will need a separate circuit via a relay to do that job. Did the directions that came with the fog lights suggest that or?

The hd ones use the "b" connecotor under the seat for power but you can use the acc plug/switch to pull the relay.
