Stator gone, what about VR? : V-Twin Forum: Harley Davidson Forums

Had a problem with charging system after last bike night. After a lot of reading here, I traced it to a dead stator. Pulled that out Tuesday night. Boy does that stink. My question is, what are the chances that this could have hurt my voltage regulator?

I took it home asap after the idiot lights came on, (check engine and battery lights). Bike is an 04 FLHTCI. Battery was placed on a tender and came right back up.

Any thoughts? I will be putting the new stator in tonight. Hopefully finished Friday evening for a good ride on Saturday.

You won't know until you try it. The good thing is that even if the VR is bad it should not effect your new stator.

I had a similar situation a few months ago. Stator was ruined but the VR took no damage. Save the $$ and try it with the existing VR before you buy a new one.
