86 FLHTC - Electrical Gremlins

The bike has developed an intermittent electrical gremlin thats driving me nuts. The bike starts great, the gauges all work including the tach and the headlight. While driving the gauges will all drop to zero including the tach and the headlight will cut out. I have a the wiring diagram but no ideal where to start???

Seen a few throttle cables chew through wiring in my days. Pull the fairing and take a good look around.

I've also seen problems where the main wiring bundle makes the 90 degree turn up into the fairing (in front of the tank). Wires tend to stretch after time and start pulling apart.

i replaced the circuit breakers on my 85 last year.i was having ignition problems. i replaced the whole ignition on it. the only thing left to change was the breakers. that was the problem. there are 3 breakers, ignition, lights and accessories breaker under the speedo- tac. your lights breaker might be getting weak. i got them at an auto parts store and they were about $7 each.
