Lights dimming and volt gauge swinging

I had a strange thing happen tonight. While finishing a 300 mile ride my lights started dimming at times. Also my volt gauge was swinging back and forth from 14 to 10 and back again. I thought OH $hit I was still 30 miles from home. Well i rode the rest of the way with the bike doing this about every 2 miles. Got it home and first checked the stator plug. it was tight so I pulled the seat off to check the battery connections. They were finger tight at best. I hope this was my only problem. I will ride to work in the morning and see how it does. I guess it's time to check EVERYTHING with a wrench.

First thing I thought of was battery connections. I think you are gonna be fine. Good thing here is you're gonna go through everything else. That'll save you a headache later on down the line. And, give a little peace of mind. Way to go!

Just had the very same thing happen to me a month ago, one battery ground tighten and all was good. It is a shot to the gut watching your lights cycle up and down on a dark country road with the vmeter swinging wildly. Alls been good since a once over with a taped up wrench. Cheers

Don't know what kind of ride ya got, but my guess it's an Evo 'cause you mentioned stator plug & they are a problem on Evos & shovels coming loose. With Evo's,loose battery connections can make your starter motor kick back & ruin your starter drive--happened to me on my old FXSTC. It's currently happening on my friend's '04 Sporty. Old batteries can do the same thing, too, so you might wanna have a load check done on the battery.
