Go through the tests in the book. You either have (in order of probability, my opinion): Bad wires to the pickup in the cone, bad pickup in the cone, bad ignition module, bad wires between stuff, bad coil, no power to the coil/system. Unless you have an aftermarket ignition, then that moves to the top of the list. A volt-ohm-meter and an hour should tell you what or give you a pretty good idea.

I was just working on my Father-in-Laws bike yesterday. 1993 FXRT that's been sitting since 2000. I cleaned the crud out of the carb jets and tried to start it....no spark. No I have a place to start.

yeah gotta get a manual then go thru it on the troubleshoot. Dr Hess is right about that. Modules will do it and so will loose wires obviously.
Start at one end where there is spark or juice and follow it thru. Do not hop around as you will chase your tail.

Got Juice to the kill switch? To the Coil? To the starter? Is your ignition switch loose and needs to be wiggled to get it to start, which means it needs to be replaced or tightened up.

The Manual will give you shortcuts as to troubleshoot as well. Like touching 3 tabs on the ignition lets you know it has spark to the plug (probably) so it may be a module. Careful there you can short a cell in the battery if you do the wrong ones or too long.

Modules like sensors in the nose cone can be troubleshot with a hairdryer or cold compressed air. But usually the bike starts then dies after it warms up. Have you checked those crappy wire ends at the ign switch? Wish we could just tell you it is the kapastilka valve but it is electricity and it can ground out or look attached but hanging by a thread......

i rechecked the coil, and it is getting juice to it, but i have no spark... and im not entirely sure on how to check to see if the control module is the culprit at hand
